Bobby N, U.S. Marine Reconnaissance I'm a student in BRC (Basic Reconnaissance Course) in the Marine Corps. I'm currently in my amphibious phase of training. One of the responsibilities of Recon Marines is scout swimming. Everyday we do a 2000 yard fin for time. This weekend I bought a pair of your fins and not only did I take 5 minutes off of my usual time, but I had little to no fatigue in my legs, and no pain in my ankles. I'd recommend these fins to anyone who's going to be doing long distance surface fins.
I actually just had my last training day today. The fins made things that much easier. As lightweight and small as the Mantarays are, I can still easily break through the surf zone and fin in full combat gear pushing a 90 pound ruck faster than I could in the Jetfins. All the instructors were pretty skeptical at first because of the way the fins look, but they performed wonderfully.
Nick N., U.S. Navy Seal “I have evaluated a wide variety of fin types, of all the fins I have used none have provided me with the performance equal to the Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System. I found the Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System would provide me with better speed and less fatigue than any fins I had used before or have used since.”
Popular Science Magazine “The Mantaray fins increased the agility and thrust and decreases leg fatigue.”
Michael Timm, Former Military Diver, General Manager, Dive California “Our Team and I are extremely excited and impressed with the overall performance of the APS Mantaray Dive Fins. The superb performance with all variety of fin kicks is awesome for wreck and cave penetration because of its size and maneuverability, little effort to kick, smooth and relaxing on long swims on the surface to the actual dive destination, under more extreme conditions in strong currents with surge, in shorts, wetsuit and drysuit, the Mantaray performed exceptionally great. It performed equally superior on the surface as underwater with a single tank or doubles 100/120. The foot pocket is very comfortable and fits my neoprene booties as well as my drysuit shoes without switching sizes or even fins. The lightweight is great for traveling.”
Scott Friesen, former Clearance Diver for the Canadian Navy, SDI/TDI Instructor, Alpha Dive Services "As a dive instructor and scuba shop owner, I tend to use my dive gear on a daily basis. You know what gear works well under all conditions and what you can rely on. In my former job as a Clearance Diver in the Canadian Navy, I used Turtle Fins almost exclusively. I made many dives all over the world using those fins and never thought of changing. When I retired from the military and bought a dive shop, I continued to use those fins because that is what I was used to. One day I had a customer come in. He was probably 6'6" tall and had size 15 feet. We were able to outfit him with everything except fins. I finally gave in and sold him my turtle fins. On my next several dives I tried various fins we had in stock and in rental but couldn't find any to my liking. I mentioned my fin woes to one of my suppliers one day and he suggested trying out a pair of Mantarays. He was a former commercial diver and had always used Jet Fins and Turtle Fins, but now he swore by these fins. I decided it wouldn't hurt to give them a try. I was very comfortable diving with these fins right from the first dive. I was amazed at how much forward thrust was achieved with such a small blade. They worked great even when diving with doubles and carrying multiple stage bottles. They have just the right amount of flex and are so light it feels like you are not wearing any fins at all. The smaller blade size makes it easier to climb up dive boat ladders as well. I have about 250 dives on Mantaray Fins now and wouldn't think of using anything else. Congratulations on a well designed fin."
David Feldman, M.D. "We purchased our fins from you prior to our trip to Honduras. We were looking for fins that weren't as heavy or as large as our Apollo or ScubaPro fins. As we have a friend who uses your fins here in California we were excited to give the Mantaray a try. Well we are very pleased, besides being light weight and comparatively small they performed beautifully with a variety of kicks, flutter, frog and helicopter, and in a variety of conditions. We have shelved our other fins and plan on using the Mantaray exclusively for all of our diving."
Jim Westphal, Dive Rescue Instructor I had a chance to use the Mantaray fins in the Cenotes in Mexico and the currents of Cozumel. I love the way they handle with different kicks, especially the frog kick in the caverns! They blew my twin jests away! I will introduce them to all my students and fellow Dive Rescue personnel…Thank you!
Michael King, Dive Instructor, San Diego, CA This is an incredible fin with the best of the split fin and the best of the paddle fin all in one. And packaged in a small, very packable package. I have used this fin in the warm waters of Roatan, Belize, Philippines and found it to be fantastic in power and hard thrust. Unlike the split fins that you can overkick ... that is unheard of with these fins. The harder you kick the power is there. But it is easy on the knees and ankles at the same time (like the split fin). I have even used the fin with my drysuit in California diving and surf diving. Making your way thru kelp is a breeze with these smaller fins and they do not get hung up in the kelp like other ones in my bag. With thier size they are ideal for travel and those bulky fin pockets on alot of bags are not used for my fins anymore and I can get a lighter bag to save on weight and just put the fins right in the bag ... that 50lb limit becomes less of an issue. Thanks for coming up with a great product. I need to order a white pair for the visibility effect with my students and with my buddies.
Mark S. Brown, M.A., EMT-P, NAUI 4546, SDLG LG (La Jolla Cove Lifeguard) “A member of the Dive Team and River Rescue Team. In my recommendation for the Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System Dive Fins, I was very impressed with the fins thrust and power, without exerting nearly as much effort.”
Matt Karl, Huntington Beach Life Guard and Dive Rescue Team “The Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System Dive Fins worked great. Despite being shorter, they still provided good thrust with a comfortable flex pattern which is much more forgiving on beach entries and large search patterns. Easy to get on and off with no plastic connections that often break.”
Jeremiah B., U.S. Coast Guard “I had the opportunity to try the Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System Dive Fin design. The word that came to mind was ‘effortless’ giving me the propulsion I needed while consuming less energy. I now use the Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System for both military and recreational dives.”
Joel M., U.S. Navy Seal Team Three “Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System Dive Fins – I was wearing Twin 80s, I was quite impressed by the fins they were very mobile with excellent thrust. My legs were not nearly as fatigued as when I used my personal fins….very navigable in shallow water. I highly recommend the opportunity to anyone who is an avid diver or surface swimmer to examine these fins.”
Kathleen Stogsdall, Owner, I.B. Divers NAUI Training Facility, 9th Street, Imperial Beach, CA “The Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System dive fin brings innovated design features. The diver gets a high thrust and efficient kick with minimum stress to the leg muscles. There is no cramping of the leg or calf muscles. The weight and length of the Mantaray dive fins make it low impact and environmentally friendly. The foot pocket design allows me to use the same size fins with either wet suit booties or the DUI dry suit rock boots. I have been diving the Mantaray dive fins for over two years. The Mantaray dive fins are more efficient and more comfortable than any paddle fins on the market. When I lend my Mantaray dive fins to a student or dive buddy that diver buys a pair of Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System dive fins.”
Stephanie Truhlar, Avid Diver and Member and Volunteer of the Bottom Bunch Dive Club, San Diego Council of Divers, and Ocean’s Foundation “I bought another pair of split fins for my dry suit and had trouble keeping up with the group. Frustrated, I decided to test the Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System dive fins. I found that the Mantaray dive fins were very easy to put on in the surf; they gave a lot of power both on the surface and below the water. I am now able to use a variety of different kicks to minimize silting because the fins are so adaptable. Packing, the Mantaray dive fins easily fit into all of my containers. This is an amazing fin, especially for the price. I’ve been very happy with them, except sometimes my buddies have trouble keeping up! I recommend the Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System dive fins and my husband just purchased a pair.”
Bill Walkup, Dive Instructor “I noticed the Mantaray fins provided a greater amount of thrust and it felt as if I didn’t even have any fins on. Once we descended and began our dive, I utilized numerous kick techniques. I found the fins to be suitable for all of them. I made this particular dive numerous times and generally make it back with between 500 and 750 pounds on a steel 72. This time I made it back with slightly over 1,000 PSI. The fins helped with my air consumption.”
Jon Hardy, Argo Diving Service “It was a pleasure to test dive your Mantaray fins. Efficiency was very high, in fact among the best of fins we have tested.”
Kristian Wilcox, PADI Dive Master “The first time I tried the Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System I was blown away. The speed that can be generated is just unbelievable matched with excellent maneuverability. These fins are second to none.”
Cary Humphries, Dive Locker Supervisor, Scripps Institute of Oceanography “My test dives proved successful and I thoroughly enjoyed your Mantaray design’s versatility. It showed good thrust with smaller surface area. It allowed me to work in tight areas with excellent pivoting abilities. I was able to swim a long distance without excessive fatigue. They proved light yet stable.”
Peter Scoones, Underwater Cinematographer “I was most impressed with the Mantaray. They were the closest to my ideal fin I have come across. I think you have come up with a design that really works.”
Steve Douglas, Underwater Video Photographer and Film Festival Contributor Worldwide “The Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System Dive Fins are very lightweight. I had major doubts that the fins could stand up to the test I would be giving it and to the efficiency of the fins I have been using these last several years, I couldn’t have been more wrong. I found the foot pocket to be the most comfortable I have ever used, allowing me to get closer without kicking up the bottom and obscuring the filming. At the dive sight we were forced to swim back to the boat into a strong 3 knot current. My friend and partner was about 15 meters ahead of me. The Mantaray Dual Water Channeling System Dive Fin’s excellent propulsion brought me head to head in no time without much effort at all.”
